The global business proposition outlines Ten Articles and comprises of nearly
100 actions for business as the basis of a recovery plan that puts Nature, People
and Planet at the heart of global value creation.
What is the Terra Carta?
Launched by The former Prince of Wales at the One Planet Summit on 11th January
2021, the Terra Carta provides a roadmap for acceleration towards an ambitious and
sustainable future; one that will harness the power of Nature combined with the
transformative power, innovation and resources of the private sector. The Ten Terra
Carta Articles guide organisations in how to put Nature, People and Planet at the heart
of its value creation. The Terra Carta serves as the guiding mandate for the Sustainable
Markets Initiative (SMI).
The Terra Carta’s Ten Articles outline ten areas for action and comprises nearly 100
actions for business as the basis of a recovery plan. It is based on a series of
recommendations developed over the past years by a coalition of global business
leaders in almost every sector. Together, they have developed a charter of ambitious,
but practical action aimed at building a truly sustainable future.
The Terra Carta serves as the guiding mandate for the SMI which will catalyse,
showcase and celebrate progress, providing a roadmap to 2030 for organisations to
move towards an ambitious and sustainable future. The Terra Carta is a living
documented and will be updated by the SMI Secretariat to reflect the rapid pace of
change and continuous progress being achieved around the world; any significant
changes that are made will be shared to current Terra Carta Supporters.
