WORLD WATER DAY 2023 – 22nd MARCH

World Water Day, held on 22 March every year since 1993, celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2 billion people living without access to safe water.

As we are deeply immersed in the world of water it is important for us to highlight “World Water Day” which this year’s falls on 22nd March. The focus this year is about “accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis” that the world is currently in. Water affects us all and many of us take it for granted but every day 25% of the world’s population are struggling to access clean water.

You might have heard of the Sustainable Development Goals also known as “Global Goals or SDG’s”, are a collection of seventeen interlinked objectives launched in 2015 by the United Nations designed to serve as a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet now and into the future. Goal 6 is “water and sanitation for all by 2030”.

This year, World Water Day 2023 asks people to “Be the change you want to see in the world”. Using an ancient story from the Quechua people in Peru, of a hummingbird who carries drops of water to put out a great forest fire, the campaign encourages people to do what they can to help solve the water and sanitation crisis.

What does World Water Day mean for us at Coldstream Filters?

Although we are proudly a UK based company and have been manufacturing tens of thousands of high performing ceramic filters a year since 2013, a significant proportion of our filters are actually sold across the United States and Southeast Asia where there are concerns or recognised issues with the drinking water supply. However, we are also seeing demand increasing from across the UK and Europe where there is increasing concerns around water quality; e.g. the presence of micro-plastics, PFAS among other contaminants. Our purpose at Coldstream Filters is to empower people all around the world to permanently remove contamination from the world’s water supply, with affordable drinking water filter systems which are harmless to the environment. We help people access drinking water affordably by removing 99.9% of contaminants and so protect their personal health and wellbeing. We also enable our customers to make the choice to not purchase plastic bottled water which uses nearly three times the amount of water in its manufacturing process in addition to the environmental challenges that then result from single-use plastic water bottles where only 9% of these are ever recycled. Our ceramic filters are 95% plastic free and we are currently working to make them 100% plastic free by 2024.

We strongly believe that in using a Coldstream filter you are not only protecting your own personal health but also contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
